Middle school like many other levels of the traditional public schooling system has its cogs. Understanding how the cogs fit together is critical to a parent's sanity and their child's success.
A quick breakdown of the system:
Teachers respond to the demands of the principal.
Principals respond to the demands of the district administration.
The district administrators respond to the demands of the school board.
The school board responds to the demands of parents.
Is your frustration accurately directed at the person who can actively create change? While I am not advocating a slough of letters to the school board about a teacher's overzealous approach to homework I am willing to coach you towards accurately gauging your concern or question and then directing it to the person or group that can best assist you.
I talk with parents who frequently share frustration over their child's middle school experience. Questions about teachers, the principal and curriculum are among the chief concerns on the list. The frustration persists and often grows because questions and concerns are not addressed by the person who can provide an answer.
Search for answers. Better yet, search for the person who can provide the answers.
